Are you eating right? There is a healthier way of eating!

Want your life to be healthier but don't know where to start? At the 4th Singapore Vegan Festival, a booth was set up by Tzu Chi volunteers to share a healthier way of eating.

A dazzling array of goods, ranging from those for consumption to usage, as well as various lectures, kicked off the 4th Singapore Vegan Festival.

Pooja Bakhshi, Organiser of Singapore Vegan Festival: This year, the focus is on sustainability as well as healthy food options because I think one of the things that COVID has taught us is that we all need to be healthier. The aim has been to showcase alternatives to people. So people know how and where to start the journey.

Tzu Chi volunteer: We are not only promoting vegetarian food, but we are also promoting health.

For the first time, Tzu Chi volunteers set up a booth at the Singapore Vegan Festival to share the concept of whole food plant-based diet with the public.

Ho Xin Qin, Tzu Chi volunteer: Singapore Vegan Festival is a mainstream vegan event in Singapore. This booth of ours uses data to convince everyone that the three highs that Singapore is facing now have seen an increasing trend. In addition, after eating vegetarian food for the 21-day health challenge, our participants saw significant improvements in their health. So in this way, everyone can understand the power of healthy vegetarian food.

John Chua, Member of the public: I adopted it (whole food plant-based diet) more after my mum suddenly said that you should eat healthier. We tried this organic diet for a while. So, for example, my dad had high cholesterol a few months back. He realised that his cholesterol levels actually dropped and were within the optimal level. I guess that helped a lot like this actually shows the benefits of a whole food plant-based diet.

Tan Hui Ling, Member of the public: After today, I have actually better understood what goes into a plant-based diet. I don’t mind eating it five days out of seven days. So to me, getting fit and being healthy is of topmost priority.

Eating the right vegetarian food not only keeps your body healthy but also contributes to environmental sustainability. Change can start with every meal you and I have.
