Free Clinic
Relieving the Suffering of the Sick and Needy
The Tzu Chi Free Clinic was first established in 2004 in Chinatown, marking a historic milestone for Tzu Chi Foundation (Singapore)’s Mission of Medicine. It primarily served elderly residents living in the vicinity and the Foundation’s long-term aid beneficiaries. With the return of the Foundation’s former premises in Chinatown to its owner in 2007, the clinic temporarily ceased operations.
Through the support and assistance of the Ministry of Health, an MP for the Tanjong Pagar GRC, and the Radin Mas grassroots organisation, the clinic found a new home in Redhill in 2008. Occupying an area of nearly 5,000 square feet, the spacious and well-equipped modern clinic is replete with consultation rooms, dental treatment rooms, health examination rooms, a mini operating theatre, an X-ray room, and a meeting room.
After its relocation, the Tzu Chi Free Clinic resumed operations on 1st November 2008. It provides free Internal Medicine, Traditional Chinese medicine (TCM), and dental services mainly to seniors living alone, low income households, Tzu Chi’s aid beneficiaries as well as migrant workers. The TCM section of the clinic is opened to the public and provides free clinical services, such as consultation and acupuncture treatment, which are very popular among the many senior citizens living in the Redhill area.
In view of the greying population, Tzu Chi will launch another TCM free clinic in Khatib on 29th September 2019, with the support and assistance of the Nee Soon South Constituency. The launch ceremony will be officiated by MP for Nee Soon GRC, Er. Dr. Lee Bee Wah, and Minister for Law and Home Affairs, Mr K. Shanmugam. Besides providing basic TCM clinical services, the clinic also features holistic services that serve to prevent diseases and improve people’s health. These services include “La Jin”(stretching therapy), dietetic therapy, and health education to encourage healthy living. In particular, patients may learn the “La Jin” (stretching) exercises from our TCM personnel and do them at home to keep fit.
Located in the community and easily accessible by public transport, the two free clinics also conduct various health talks that promote and encourage an active and healthy lifestyle.
