Someone asked Master Cheng Yen, “What is your view on “respect for life”?
The Master answers:
“Respect for life” is an attitude that should be adopted by everyone and not just religious people. Living beings should respect each other because there is nothing more precious than life. “Respect for life” is a dedication, not a slogan. To Tzu Chi, “respect for life” is not only about saving people who are dying, but more about respecting one’s own life, which can be achieved by unleashing one’s value in life, and that is to save people in misery and difficulty.
