Displays

Nestled in a quiet corner at 137 Queen’s Ave in Sembawang, the Da Ai Gallery is housed in a historical black and white building that is a legacy from Singapore’s colonial past. The grand old dame with over 70 years of history has a simple, rustic architectural design.

As a cool breeze gently blows, the shadows of the surrounding trees swirl and move to the rhythms of nature, as if in a perpetual silent dance. An atmosphere of kindness and friendship permeates the air, providing a safe and quiet respite for the mind, body, and spirit.

Each demarcated space is highlighted by a unique theme, ranging from the annals of Tzu Chi’s history and charity works in Singapore to world events and multi-media experience.

Reading corner - A long, quiet corridor where book-lovers can discover life’s wisdom within the pages

Nature’s Haven - A wooden platform in an open space where one’s senses can be nourished by Nature’s fresh air

Chat Corner – A sanctuary where visitors can rest their tired feet or imbibe in a cup of refreshing hot tea as they engage in an intimate chat

Surprises await visitors in the small, cosy spaces within the Gallery. Distinctive features include dry wood and driftwood pieces, which have been given a new lease of life, and the surrounding textures that create an atmosphere of nostalgic warmth. Most of the furniture pieces are made from recycled materials, hand-crafted by volunteers with love. They also convey an environmental message of cherishing our Earth’s resources.

The Gallery lovingly presents 50 years of Tzu Chi history through artifacts, texts, and multimedia tools, capturing the organisation’s global footprints of Great Love and models of a humanistic culture, with numerous life-touching stories that await willing listeners.

Experience

Mission

With a refreshing and tasteful decor, the Gallery has simple, real-life display elements that touch human hearts.

Every space and corner is filled with the echoes of humanistic values, while keeping in step with the march of the times.

Visitors at the Gallery can read an inspiring book or listen to snippets of a true life story, to experience touching moments. They may perhaps find quiet space in the busyness of life, allow their spirit to fall into quiet restfulness, or even re-discover their calling in life.

With the lovely sounds of Nature from the surrounding birds and insects, and squirrels scampering nearby, the Gallery is a rare oasis in our bustling city state, allowing us to be re-invigorated by nature.

Established by the Tzu Chi Foundation (Singapore), the Da Ai Gallery was officially opened for public viewing on 11th May 2016.

The Gallery was birthed on Tzu Chi Taiwan’s 50th Anniversary and is the first of its kind in the world, bearing great historical significance.
