On 26-29 September 2006, David Liu, CEO of Tzu Chi Singapore and Malacca, and Tan Chee Wei, Office Manager of Tzu Chi Kuala Lumpur, both representing Tzu Chi Taiwan, attended the 15th Annual Consultation of NGOs with UNHCR held in Geneva, Switzerland, evidencing another milestone of the collaboration between Tzu Chi and other NGOs in the world.
Ah Gong (which means Grandpa in Mandarin) was so worried that the volunteers might break his toilet when they changed his existing squatting toilet to the sitting type. The change was completed within half an hour. Looking at the brand new and comfortable toilet seat, Ah Gong was so happy and relieved and could not wait to sit on it.
Singapore is an island situated at the equator with a total land area of just 682 sq kilometers. With the painstaking town planning by the Government, majority of Singaporeans live in the high-rise apartments developed by the Housing Development Board (HDB). Despite the city being vibrant and bustling, little attention was paid to the lifestyle of people residing in these modern housing.
Up on the screen, the slides chronicles Singapore’s Chapter on Medicine Mission, the first dental chair installation, the first doctor on duty, to the Free Clinic service today, home visits to the elderly patrons of the Free Clinic, cross-border medical assistance case, missions to off-shore islands in Indonesia, International Disaster Relief missions and many more. The first TIMA Symposium, with its theme: Healing the World for Love, Upholding Moral with Humanity, has brought more than 100 TIMA members from Singapore, Malaysia and Indonesia together in witnessing their past achievements.
Motivated to benefit about the 600 residents in the community, Kim Seng Citizens’ Consultative Committee had chosen 20th August 2006 to organize a large-scale influenza vaccination program. Tzu Chi International Medical Association (TIMA) was also cordially invited to participate in this meaningful event and comprising the team were 14 medical professionals (including doctors and nurses) and 4 medical volunteers.
