Raising Environmental Awareness in the Heartland

At the eco-awareness talk at Blk 105A Jalan Bukit Merah, a set of miniature recycling bins made of eight paper drink boxes was on display at the eco-awareness education booth. The boxes were cut open on top and labeled with Tzu Chi recycling pithy slogan “Bottles, Bottles, Cans, Cans, 1, 3, 5, 7”.

Natural resources are bound to be depleted if people continue to use them in a wasteful manner. However, small actions like recycling can help lessen the burden on the planet. Teachers from a local Buddhist group once again brought its young students to one of Tzu Chi’s recycling points to learn about their relationship with the ailing environment and get involved in one of the solutions – recycling.

Tzu Chi Awarded in Champion Blood Donor Recognition Ceremony

Tzu Chi Foundation (Singapore Branch) was accorded the Blood Mobile Organizers Gold Award in acknowledgement of its efforts at one of the three recognition ceremonies held in celebration of the World Blood Donor Day on 12 June. The event also saw blood transfusion beneficiaries sharing moving testimonials about their gratitude for having received blood at their point of need.

Foundation Distributes Relief & Holds Buddha Ceremony in Chile

On the weekend of 29 and 30 May, volunteers carried out two major distributions in Chile, helping over 18,000 people. They also held a free clinic and a ceremony to honour Buddha, both a first in the South American country.

Beautiful Closure to First Heart Lotus Case

The sufferings and financial needs of AIDS patients were first drawn to the attention of Tzu Chi Foundation (Singapore Branch) in late 1998 when a lady came to appeal for assistance at its branch office. A satisfactory and beautiful closure was brought to the case in March 2010.

A Breakthrough for the Friends of Heart Lotus

It requires courage to speak and to share one’s life story in front of a crowd, it is even harder for an amateur performer to take the stage. However, several friends from Heart Lotus, with much encouragement from the Tzu Chi volunteers, were willing to give the stage a try. For the very first time, they expressed their heartfelt gratitude to their family and Tzu Chi volunteers through the silent gesture.

Activate the Natural Capacity of Body against Diseases

On 27 May, Associate Professor Huang Sen-fang from the Taiwan Tzu Chi University Sports Center gave a talk on the correlation between physical activity and chronic disease prevention. In Jing Si Hall, Assoc Prof Huang shared his vast knowledge to an audience of about 200 on how the human body works to protect itself against diseases and how we can activate these natural protection mechanisms. He also stressed on the importance of taking early, active steps to prevent disease and maintain good health.

A Simple Act that Brings a Smile

The annual flu vaccination and health check which was co-organized by the Kreta Ayer-Kim Seng Grassroots Organizations and Wellness Programme Management Committee took place at Kreta Ayer Community Club on 23 May 2010. The medic group and volunteers from Tzu Chi was invited to come together to join in the motion and assist in the injection of the vaccination.
