Rethinking the Chinese "Ghost Month"

In Chinese culture, the seventh lunar month is generally regarded as the “Ghost Month” which carries with it a string of superstitious belief and myths associated with the dead. With the festival now around the corner, Tzu Chi volunteers make sure they understand the origin of the belief before pledging the public to rethink the purpose and meaning of the existing folklores and customs.

WIN Council Pledges to Promote Recycling

15 members of Women’s Integration Network Council (WIN Council) have had the chance to visit a Tzu Chi recycling station at Neihu, Taipei during their cultural exchange trip to Taiwan in June. The members were astonished by the fact that Tzu Chi is producing eco-friendly blankets from post-consumer PET bottles which are distributed to disaster victims. They were also surprised to see many volunteers helping out at the recycling station, many of them grandmothers at their 70s and 80s.

Tzu Chi Awarded Special Consultative Status by UN’s ECOSOC

On Monday, 19 July, the Economic and Social Council of the United Nations (ECOSOC) awarded Special Consultative Status to Buddhist Tzu Chi Foundation, an acknowledgement of its charity and medical work across the world.
