Celebrating Mid-Autumn Festival Whilst Learning about Recycling

With the invitation of Bedok North Diamond Residents’ Committee, Tzu Chi Singapore’s East Two zone volunteers attended their neighbourhood Mid-Autumn Festival celebrations. The volunteers had set up a recycling education booth to raise the environmental consciousness of residents and encourage them to join in the monthly recycling activities at Bedok North Block 185.

Tzu Chi Establishes Office in China

Tzu Chi Foundation was officially awarded a license to operate within the boarders of China on 20 August 2010. The Foundation is the first overseas nongovernmental organization to be recognized in mainland China as a nationwide foundation.

Cross Border Outreach to Rural Sri Lanka

Following the two large scale free clinics that were held in Sri Lanka last August and this past March, the Singapore Tzu Chi chapter and its medical team once again returned to Sri Lanka in August for another medical outreach. This time, Karawanella town - which is around two hour's drive from the capital city of Colombo - hosted the free clinic.

There is a saying that reads: “Only desert travellers know the value of a droplet of water.” For a person who is fully blind, regaining sight in one eye is real bliss. Even though faced with the limitations of modern medicine, the eye team in the Sri Lanka free clinic did their utmost to help patients overcome the obstacles of visual impairments.

Tzu Chi Singapore held its first free clinic in Sri Lanka in August last year. Apart from alleviating the sufferings of the residents, the free clinic has managed to attract several local doctors and nurses to become part of Tzu Chi International Medical Association (TIMA). This August, many Sri Lanka doctors and nurses took time off their busy schedules to participate in Tzu Chi’s third free clinic to serve their fellow countrymen. It is indeed heartening to see the efforts bearing fruit.
