As the lamp of the heart is lit, the darkness within fades away;
With heart and mind together, brightness prevails.
Let’s shoulder Buddha’s mission,
While proliferating Tzu Chi’s spirit
The Singapore Tzu Chi Collegiate Youth Association was established in 1998 under the leadership of experienced seniors. To date, the Association has established its core team in various tertiary institutions. The annual youth camps organized for tertiary students also attracted many youths who identify with Tzu Chi volunteering work.
During their free time, Tzu Chi youths promote activities enthusiastically at their respective institutions, inviting student participation in youth activities such as sharing sessions, volunteer training, inspirational talks and fellowship sessions, in keeping with Tzu Chi’s beliefs. In addition, the youths’ zeal and energy can also be seen in their participation in activities such as institutional care, recycling, beach cleaning, book fairs and medical missions.
In 2005, the youth association involved students from NUS, NTU, SMU and various tertiary institutions in a large-scale event - Tzu Chi Youths’ Cultural Night. With elegant decorations and excellent sign language and drama performance, the night was filled with high praise from the audience that included the VIPs, supportive family members and friends.
Indeed, the establishment of the Tzu Chi Collegiate Youth Association in Singapore has not only provided youths from various tertiary institutions with a spiritual home, but also introduced new blood into the Tzu Chi World.
