Mission of Education

The Mission of Education is essential in harmonizing society and continuing with Tzu Chi Foundation’s four missions. Tzu Chi has a comprehensive education system that includes kindergartens, primary schools, junior and senior high schools, and tertiary institutions. The concept of education emphasizes providing knowledge and skills along with a spirit of humanitarianism, thereby cultivating generations of compassionate youths who excel both morally and academically.

Education should begin early in lives. Tzu Chi Singapore started the Children’s Enrichment Class not long after its establishment, teaching children life skills and humanistic values in its monthly sessions. The Tzu Chi Teenagers’ Class also provides growing teens with a warm and caring environment in which to develop a wholesome character.

In 1998, a group of inspired youths from various tertiary institutions came together to form the Singapore Tzu Chi Collegiate Youth Association. The youths witnessed and gained an understanding of life suffering and impermanence while performing community service in their free time. The proliferation of Tzu Chi’s humanitarian spirit depends on the younger generation, representing a fresh positive outlook within schools.

In adherence to Master Cheng Yen’s vow of ‘purifying minds’, Tzu Chi University Continuing Education Centre (Taiwan) was established with the aim of providing the community with opportunities and a place for life-long learning. Hopefully, with its establishment, Tzu Chi humanitarianism will be promoted within the community.

Tzu Chi University Continuing Education Centre (Singapore) was officially inaugurated on 18 February 2006. The courses available are geared to the interests of the community, and include calligraphy, flower arrangement, yoga. Operating within the premises of Jing Si Hall, the classrooms at the Centre are elegantly decorated. Besides providing a serene environment for life-long learning, the elegance of the classrooms enhances the Centre’s rich humane spirit.

Tzu Chi’s Mission of Education acknowledges the link between the individual and society. Every individual has a role to play in society and society can influence individuals. Indeed, a good education system can only be sustained with the integration of love and goodness within its curriculum. It will then have a long-lasting, harmonizing effect on society.
