When Madam Ho Miu Chin learned from her elder brother Kah Yeow (a Tzu Chi volunteer) that private businesses are welcomed to ask for Tzu Chi donation box placement at their premises to raise fund for the Myanmar and Sichuan disaster victims, she happily adopted two and put them in her interior design shops at Thomson Shopping Centre and Causeway Point Shopping Centre.
The result, however, was not as good as she thought. But she refused to give up on the chance to contribute and later decided to organize a charity food bazaar at her residence to solicit donations from her neighbours.
Inviting her siblings and friends to help, each of them came up with a home-cook dish for the bazaar held in Yew Mei Green’s multi-purpose room on 18 June 2008. Thanks to the pre-event promotion, the 17 local delights were selling fast with many residents came supporting the event. As the monies went out of their pockets and went into the donation box, the residents were happy to bring back delicious food for their family, as well as a peace of mind that they too have dedicated to the relief and rehabilitation of the victims in the faraway land. |
