On 9-13 November 2007, a total of 151 entrepreneurs from Malaysia, Singapore, Indonesia, Japan and Australia visited Tzu Chi Taiwan. These entrepreneurs took time off from their hectic business schedules to embark on this spiritual trip.
The Religious Department of Hualian Headquarters arranged a very comprehensive itinerary which included visits to Taipei Tzu Chi General Hospital, Tzu Chi Humanitarian Centre, Ba De Recycling Station, Tzu Chi University, and most important of all, The Still Thoughts Abode, Tzu Chi volunteers' spiritual home. Thanks to the sharing by senior Tzu Chi volunteers, the 3-day trip has given everyone a good insight and understanding of Tzu Chi's missions on charity, medicine, education and culture; not to mention the footprints of compassion which have transcended many borders.
This was the seventh time that Brother Lim Haw Sek had accompanied the contingent of entrepreneurs. He expressed gratitude to his sister, Sister Zheng Yue Fang, and Sister Echo Chien, CEO of Tzu Chi Kuala Lumpur, for introducing him to Tzu Chi. Initially, he thought it was sufficient for him to be a donating member. However, thanks to the guidance and encouragement by fellow Dharma brothers and sisters, he started to be more actively involved in Tzu Chi activities. With that, he had gained better knowledge of the teachings of Master and from thereon made an effort to change his lifestyle. To his pleasant surprise, things worked out fine for both his family life and business.
Mr. Yao Jiang Huai from Melaka came for the same tour last November. He was so touched that he vowed to bring his family members to join Tzu Chi. This trip, he brought along his three children. At the closing session, he and his children went on stage to share. His son expressed that it was a fruitful trip and he could see the beauty of Tzu Chi and appreciate Master Cheng Yen's concept of great compassion for all. In particular, he agreed with the efforts of environmental protection and mentioned that together with his siblings, they would put into action in protecting Mother Earth.
To Kerry of Australia, this has been her most memorable trip ever. "Tzu Chi has opened up my heart and my wisdom. I used to worry a lot about global warming. I agree with Brother Hsieh Ching Kuei that we should translate worry into actions. Concrete action is needed to protect the Earth. I'm very impressed with the efforts of Tzu Chi volunteers in environmental protection. This is something that I should emulate and practise. Everyone should work together to save this world."
Through the encouragement of Brother Lim Haw Sek, Mr. Huang Yan Qin, who is a Christian and English educated, decided to join this trip. He was rather curious and wanted to find out as to why his friend was so impressed with Tzu Chi. From the two days' tour and sharing by Taiwanese brothers and sisters, he has learned about the compassionate efforts of Master Cheng Yen; and that one should not procrastinate in practising filial piety. He felt that he has not done enough in taking care of his parents and promised that he would spend more time with them.
In the past, Zhang Gin Rong from Klang did not quite understand the meaning of 'Great Love'. After coming to Tzu Chi, he finally realized the meaning.
Most of the participants expressed that they have benefited a lot from this 3-day-2-night Entrepreneurs' Camp which was like cleansing of the soul. Other than getting to know more about Tzu Chi's missions and philosophy, they have also found the answers to their concerns. Many vowed that they would join in the efforts of Great Love upon their return to their respective countries.
