Environmental Protection

Tzu Chi Singapore branch began its Mission of Environmental Protection in 1999. A functional committee has been in charge of it since its inception. The mission is mainly carried out at two recycling stations - one in the western region (Jurong East) and another in the central area (along Shun Fu Road). After the 4-in-1 structure became effective in August 2005, volunteers in each region hope to conduct recycling activities in their respective neighbourhoods as soon as possible.

Volunteers from the northeast region also started holding recycling activities at Jing Si Hall in Pasir Ris. They began recycling at home, and are encouraged to tell their neighbours and friends about the value of recycling. On every second week of the month, Tzu Chi volunteers will visit the latter’s homes to collect recyclables, which are then sorted out at Jing Si Hall. The recyclables are sold on the same day. Through their involvement in community work, Tzu Chi volunteers are gradually blending into the local communities. This creates plenty of opportunities for the residents to get connected with Tzu Chi and be part of the Great Love team.

Environment protection volunteers also organized educational trips to Tzu Chi Melaka branch to learn more about recycling. This is a firm step towards realising the goal - “Turning waste into gold, which transforms into a stream of kindness that circulates the earth and nourishes the land, purifying the human mind at the same time”

In 2006, environment protection volunteers organized an educational trip to the Melaka branch office to learn more about recycling and environmental conservation.

Connecting with the community, volunteer explaining about environmental protection, and inviting the public to join in the mission.

Cultivating a love for the environment and conserving resources starting from the young

“Turning waste into gold, which transforms into a stream of kindness that circulates the earth and nourishes the land” is Master Cheng Yen’s wish for Tzu Chi’s Mission of Environmental Protection.
